In order to obtain employment as a CNA in Portland, prospective candidates are required to complete a nursing assistant program, level 1. However, if individuals have completed 75 hours of training in a different state, then they will be permitted to take the certification exam. If individuals have completed training as a military medic, with 400 hours of compensation for employment, then these individuals will be allowed to take the state examination as well. Those who have completed a nursing program within the past three years are also eligible to take the examination. All candidates must pass a criminal background screening. The exam is administered by the Headmaster Testing Service, which contain a written exam and a skills test. The results are mailed within 10 days, and individuals who pass will receive an Oregon CNA certificate.
