Top CNA Certification Classes in Georgia | GA CNA Colleges

A CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) who works under the supervision of a licensed nurse or doctor in providing care to the sick is an excellent career for persons who like to serve others and do not have the time and money to become a full-fledged nurse. Other duties include bathing and feeding patients, cleaning rooms and making up beds, and transporting patients whenever needed. This career can become a stepping stone toward a more advanced nursing position. CNA schools are found throughout the state of Georgia, including Southeastern Technical College in Metter, Georgia, West Georgia Technical College in LaGrange, Georgia, and Altamaha Technical Institute in Jesup, Georgia. Online classes are also available, and some nursing homes offer programs to persons agreeing to work at the home after completion. Free and low cost courses are available through the Workfare Development Act for low income applicants.

Salary and Job Outlook

Upon graduation and receiving their licenses, the students have many possibilities for employment in hospitals, doctors’ offices, and skilled nursing facilities. Many schools will assist the graduates in finding a job. The job outlook for this job is projected to increase by 19% from 2008 to 2018. The growth is due to increase in the elderly population, resulting in greater need for health care. Although technology and improvements in medical care are prolonging lives, in many cases they are not improving the quality of life. The growth in jobs will be in nursing homes and community living facilities. The average salary in Georgia is $28,000 a year, which is 14% higher than the nationwide average. The average salary for persons working in nursing homes tends to be slightly higher than those of nursing assistants in other facilities.
